What to expect when booking Popular Australian Bands
So you’ve decided to book one of our nations many famous Australian bands. Your budget is in check and you’re excited! You should be! But what happens next? In the event that you’ve never booked any number of big name Australian singers before, that’s where we come in and save the day. There are a number of things you’ll come to expect of booking any band, especially famous Australian singers.
The most important is the rider. This thing can make or break your day/week/month/year/life. Let’s start at the beginning, what is a rider? Well, basically riders can be broken down into two sections; the tech rider and the hospitality rider. Tech riders are essential for popular Australian bands, famous or not. There will be a specific list of requirements for them to be able to play. For famous Australian bands this includes stage sizes, in-house equipment requirements, lighting or visual technology, sound technician etc. Many times bands bring their own technicians and backline (amps etc) but may need front-of-house gear. They’re almost always different, and without them the band can’t play.
Hospitality riders are the kind of lists you’ll find backstage/dressing room requirements. Also included are nutritional requirements and food and beverage requests, as well as peripherals like warm towels or a Unicorn. This is the part where you might find things like “bowl of M&M’s with the brown ones removed”. This was originally written by Van Halen as a means to check whether anyone was reading the whole rider anyway. These are more likely to be tricky, with the more diva-esque types potentially requesting 12 bespoke scented candles at $200 a piece. Without getting this right, the band won’t play.
Australian male singers will have different requirements than Australian female singers, and vice versa. It’s not likely you’re going to see the exact same rider twice, even if you book the same famous Australian singer. Everyone is different and people do change, given enough time so do Australian singers!
Once you’ve nailed all of that down, the rest is relatively straight-forward (flights, transfers, accommodation, run sheet, bump in/out etc) as it is with regular event management. If you’re stuck on how to get around any of those obstacles let us know! We’re experts, we live and breathe all things events.
