Magicians and the word “Magic” evolved from the word “Mageia” which was an ancient Greek word meaning any foreign unorthodox or illegitimate ritual practice.
The first known book illustrating magic tricks was published in 1584. In the 17th century many similar books where published describing magic tricks and practices. Right up to the 18th century magic was a popular source of entertainment at local town fairs.
At the end of the 19th century, magic shows where predominantly staged at big theater halls.
For many past centuries, magicians were thought to be linked to the devil and occult.
Known as the founding figure of modern magic, Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin who was originally a clock maker, opened a magic theatre in Paris in 1845 with a specialty in mechanical automaton that appeared to move and act as if alive.

Stage illusions are designed to be performed in front of large audiences inside a theatre. Key factors that set this type of magic apart are large scale props, magician assistants, and often exotic animals such as tigers, elephants and lions have also known to feature in such shows.
Parlor Magic is is normally performed to a larger crowd than close up magic, which is normally performed to a handful of people or even just one person. In parlour magic, the audience is smaller than stage magic, and the magician is often standing at the same level as the people he is performing for. His audience could be seated or standing.

Mentalism is a form of magic performed by playing with the mind of its audience, manipulating thoughts and predictive outcomes based on audience participation and choice. It can take place on a stage, in a cabaret environment, or before small groups or single spectator.
Children Magic is magic specifically designed to be performed to Children, Usually for birthday parties, preschools, Sunday Schools or other kid friendly events. it’s usually got an element of comedy associated in the performance, and involves audience interaction.
Street Magic is is a style of performance normally performed out in public on the streets of cities and towns. The audience can be a single person or a group of people who the magician is performing to while they are standing around him watching his performance.
