Biography
The Lavamen are Bobby V’s party band. They take having a good time to a new level. It starts with a tight, twistin’ little 3 pce. Bobby V on Guitar, a Swinging Hammond Organ & pounding drums! Then add a Wahine, a Sax, maybe a Steel drum & Voila – LUAU!!!
We incorporate our award winning Hawaiian songs with a great set of faves to get the dance floor Twisting, Jiving & even Limbo-ing (please Limbo responsibly cos we’re not insured J). We’re not happy until there are no bums remaining on seats.
There’s Beach Boys, Surf Classics, Beatles, Stones & even some songs written after 1973!!! Plus a little bonus for Sailors & Flyers with a visit to Margaritaville. Oh & don’t forget The King with a touch of Paradise Hawaiian style.
So, it’s everyone up on tables, trousers down & into the Pool, cos The Lavamen will be erupting soon at a venue near you.
Now let’s hear from the Band;
John Grant, keyboards, bass, vocals
“He must be a very good musician, because he listens so well.” So said Bob Kaplan, author and Professor of Mathematics at Harvard University. Listening carefully to the rest of the band is essential in achieving a harmonious sound. That can be a challenge when working with Bobby Valentine, because he constantly changes the repertoire to suit the audience and the ambience at any given time. But for John, it’s also an absolute pleasure to play with such great musicians. After working on stage with Ross Wilson, Joe Camilleri, Lisa Edwards, Wendy Stapleton, James Reyne, Colleen Hewett, Billy Thorpe, David Hobson, Daryl Braithwaite, Brian Cadd, Glenn Shorrock, Rhonda Birchmore, Johnny Young, and Russell Morris. After arranging songs for Tina Arena, Hugh Jackman, Jerry Lewis, Renee Geyer, Helen Reddy, Sam Newman, John Paul Young, Kate Ceberano, Petula Clark, and The Wiggles. Is keyboardist John Grant now working with Bobby Valentine? Actually, they first shared the stage in the 90s. Of all the people in the music industry, John will happily turn down other work in order to perform with Bobby, assisting him in giving the audience a great time.
Peter Fearn, drums, vocals.
A mainstay of the Melbourne music industry for 40 years, Peter has worked with iconic Australian acts such as Normie Rowe, Colleen Hewitt, Daryl Somers, The Paul MacKay Sound, etc. He supported the Four Tops and Roy Orbison at Festival Hall. Later, he changed to the production side of the business, operating his own PA and Lighting company, working with Frankie J Holden, Wendy Stapleton, Wilbur Wilde, Marty Rose, the Peter Rowlands Catering Company, and many private functions for clients such as Lloyd Williams, the Packer family, Hugh Jackman, and many more. But over the past 10 years, it’s been time to return to what gives him the most fun, and that’s playing drums with his favourite people, Bob Valentine, Wilbur Wilde, Wendy Stapleton, and Marty Rose.
