Biography
Introducing SUPER FOX gypsy swing jazz trio.
Inspired by the unique sound of “ The Hot Club of France” which featured gypsy virtuoso Django Reinhardt , Melbourne trio SUPER FOX present their music with the spirit , knowledge and experience that has seen them emerge as one of the most sought after bands in the genre. Formed by well known guitarist Peter Baylor over five years ago, the band has enjoyed appearances at Australia’s major jazz festivals and jazz clubs as well as corporate events, private parties and weddings .
Their music comes from the driving, muscular acoustic guitar style of gypsy jazz which incorporates jazz swing tunes, ballads, traditional waltzes , French and latin music. The band comprises of two guitars and Double Bass with vocals which creates an atmosphere of elegant swing to exuberant and dynamic dance tempo jazz. Superfox add clarinet, violin ,accordion as well as the fabulous vocal s of Julie O’Hara to suit the requirements of certain engagements.
Well known to Australian and international audiences for his playing and singing in a wide variety of styles such as Western swing, Rockabilly and various jazz styles, Peter Baylor has played professionally since 1980. Some of the bands he has played in include The Dancehall Racketeers,Blue Drag, The Baylor Brothers, Mic Conways Whoopee band, Sweet Atmosphere, The Stringbusters, The Starliners , Doug Parkinson to name but a few in his long career. He has toured overseas to Japan, The United States and Europe on several occasions and has shared the stage and supported international acts such as Bob Dylan, The Stray cats, Robert Plant, Dale Watson, Ronnie Dawson, Mike Compton ,Lulo Reinhardt, Wayne Hancock, Deke Dickerson, Flaco Jimenez , Dan Crary and Rosie Flores.
Jon Delany is fast emerging as one of the more gifted and robust guitar players on the Australian scene. A VCA graduate Jon has taken to the gypsy style of playing like he was born for it. He has played extensively throughout Europe and Canada , and in 2011 undertook studies with the great gypsy jazz stylist Fapy Lefertin. His guitar work can also be heard in contempory jazz combo’s in Melbourne as well as “La mavaise Reputation” that plays French chanson as well as gypsy swing.
Kane Borlase is in demand for his swinging bass playing and has has a strong track record with some of Melbourne’s best jazz and roots based bands such as Duck musique, Ken Shroeder trio and The Brunswick blue shooters.
