Biography
Peña Flamenca is the fresh and modern flamenco nuevo ensemble, capturing the fused flavours of Spanish and Latin traditions with an Aussie twist, creating a unique fiesta. The group have just finished a two year residency at Sydney’s Spanish Club, where they discovered a shared drive for creating flamenco frenzied dance floors. Led by Christopher Duff on guitar, Peña includes singer Angela Rosero and dancer Chachy Peñalver, Byron Mark on percussion, Tom Burns Brown on bass, Keyna Wilkins on flute and Trevor Brown on saxophones. The multitude of musical backgrounds (from classical to funk to jazz) and culmination of relaxed attitudes breathes some fresh air into the world of flamenco, combining to create an original antipodean interpretation of this powerful art form. 2013 brings a busy schedule for Peña including shows at the Vanguard, Camelot Lounge, Manly Fig, La Sala, residency at The Mac, concerts at Riverside Theatre and members touring to Adelaide for the Fringe Festival.
