Biography

Mumbo Jumbo

Mumbo-Jumbo is a Latin American band formed by accomplished musicians, which has been performing successfully at various venues for the last 25 years. The band members are of different ethnic origin, and the instruments played are a blend of acoustic and electronic. Thus, the repertoire performed carries an authentic sound and rhythm.
Mumbo-Jumbo has shown the ability to entertain a mixed audience from different ages and nationalities. As a result of the encouraging response the band has had, the enthusiasm and willingness of its members continue to grow as artist and entertainers. Good fun and plenty of dancing is assured.

The band started as a trio at small restaurant-bar located in Johnson St. Fitzroy “ The” Spanish street of Melbourne back in April 1991. After a few months the band’s sound blended quite well so its members decided it was time to look for a bigger venue and incorporate a percussion player.

After spending a couple of weeks looking for a suitable place, the band started playing at Café Lambada located in the exclusive neighbourhood of Sandrinham. However, with a very small crowd at first “Mumbo-Jumbo established itself as “Latin band at the South of the Yarra, building up a following and playing to a full house every weekend. The band successfully played at this venue for three years.
