Bahia entertain and perform in Melbourne Victoria and around Australia.

Introducing ‘Bahia’, A Melbourne based Salsa Band, entertaining and performing in Melbourne,Victoria and available for Festivals, Corporate events and special functions.

Bahia is one of the first original Salsa bands to introduce Melbourne to the joys of Latin music and continues to elicit a toe-tapping, leg moving and infectious stream of good vibes throughout their performance.
The Band is formed with a complete percussion line up of experienced Latino Musicians who have mastered the exclusive grooves of Latin music, ranging from high energy Salsa, Cumbia and Merengue to the more delicate Cha Cha, Son Cubano and Bolero styles. We have three of the finest Latin lead vocalists in the country who will put all their experience on the line to entertain you and keep an audience at ease, plus, a brass line up which is comprised of highly experienced Australian musicians together with an Aussie piano player who has studied in Cuba.

Jose ‘Pepe’ Leyton with his Tumbao completes the ensemble called ‘ Bahia ‘ and also serves as the band leader.

Some events do not require the full force of a 12 piece ensemble so we can adapt for smaller events and downsize to a 10 piece. That means 1 less vocalist and only 2 horns.

Twelve Piece band:

2x Trombone, 1x sax/flute/ 1x trumpet.

3X Percussion: Timbales, Congas, Bongos and bell.

3 Vocalists. Bass. Piano.

Members: Jose leyton,Pedro Farfan,Angelo Farfan,Manuel Menjivar,Robert Krenn,David Allardice,Sergio Fuenzalida,Sonia Barreto,Kenton Smith,Leo Pozo, , Fernando Gallardo,Jaquelin Vallejo.

A bit about Salsa Music

Salsa music is Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian popular dance music. The term salsa was initially promoted and marketed in New York City during the 1970s. Salsa comprises various musical genres including the Cuban son montuno, guaracha, chachachá, mambo, and to a certain extent bolero.

Salsa is recognized as one of the most dynamic and significant musical phenomena of the 1970s and 1980s. Salsa is not always fast and intense, it can also be slow and romantic or somewhere in between. In its various regional forms it is the single most popular dance style among Puerto Rican and Cuban communities, holding great appeal in their homelands, the US, Central and South America, Europe & Australia, as well.
