Ritmos Latinos

Biography

Ritmos Latinos (meaning Latin Rhythms), is a compact trio playing crowd pleasing Latin popular music mixed with salsa. With bass, guitar or piano and one-of-a-kind percussion kit, all three musicians play and sing in three-part harmony, creating the sound of a much larger band.

They have been performing at weddings and corporate functions for several years now with their mix of Latin standards, such as classic songs from The Buena Vista Social Club, romantic boleros plus high-energy contemporary Cuban and Latin American dance music. They have a growing fan base amongst the Sydney salsa dancing set.

The combo is fronted by Peruvian Richard Valdez, known for his captivating solo performances in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall. He is also lead singer with Sydney salsa groups El Orqueston and Malo Malo as well as Afro Peruvian group, Sarambe. His powerful tenor voice, coupled with his energetic performance, draws people in and engages the audience. He accompanies himself on either guitar or piano, depending on mood and repertoire.

Percussionist Issac Zorzano from Cuba plays a unique bongo setup complete with cowbells, cymbals, woodblocks and guiro. He sings both backing vocals and second lead and brings great joy and fun to a stage.

Tina Harris, musical director for other ensembles such as 12 piece Cuban band, El Orqueston and Tijuana Brass tribute act Tijuana Taxi, plays the Ampeg Baby Bass, plays with energy and drive, dancing and singing backing vocals to complete the trio with her solid swinging bass grooves.
