Monk’s Mood Jazz Trio Sydney
Monk’s Mood Jazz Trio Sydney, featuring a highly expressive and gifted singer with a decade of performing and recording experience. Linn lead singer infuses each performance with elegance and style carried by their high level of craftsmanship and love of music. Their impressive repertoire of classic Jazz standards and modern favorites creates the perfect atmosphere for weddings, functions, parties and corporate events.
Swedish born jazz vocalist Linn brings a Nordic cool to classics performed in a fresh modern take. Linn seeks out the essence of each tune and blends a wide range of influences into her musical interpretations.
Linn has been performing with her own jazz quartet since 2006 and is continuing to explore the musical pallet with renowned guitarist Dave Smith and bass player Martin making up the core band.
Growing up in a musical family, her father a professional musician, Linn began performing professionally at age 16. She worked regularly in Sweden and Norway while studying jazz at one of Norway’s most acclaimed music colleges in Kristiansand.
In 2000 Linn moved to Australia where she studied jazz performance at the Australian Institute of Music. She soon established herself on the Sydney scene performing at many of the great past and present jazz venues of Sydney including the Basement, the Soup Plus, the Side on Cafe, as well as the Sydney Opera House.
Linn has performed with many of Sydney’s jazz greats including Dave McRae, Carl Dewhurst, Joy Yates, Matt McMahon, Jason Thornton, and Ron Lemke. In 2012 Linn was asked to perform at the Queenstown Jazz Festival as one of the “top 5” billed acts of the festival and performed to rave reviews in the local press.
Fronted by Linn the band generally performs as a trio with guitar and bass with drums added when appropriate. Renowned Sydney jazz guitarist Dave Smith’s rich and adventurous accompaniments and soaring solos appeals equally to listeners and his musical peers. Dave has worked with the cream of Sydney’s jazz musician’s for decades and his repertoire knowledge and inventiveness is second to none.
The core band is rounded out by Swedish born bass player Martin Marklund who’s bluesy swing lines oozes with groove. Martin was a founding member of Global Blues Groove in the naughties and has recorded and performed for many years as freelance musician in Sydney.
Monk’s Mood continues to push forward into new adventurous and ever soulful interpretations of the well loved jazz classics as well as the odd surprise tune from other genres.
