Biography

Jasmine Beth has the rare ability to tell a convincing story through her songs. Whether delivering a gritty blues or a poetic ballad, she draws in her audiences with her fresh sound and sharp, original lyrics. Jasmine’s passion for music started at a young age with studying classical piano at the age of nine and listening to an eclectic range of music, from jazz to classical to the great singer-songwriters of the ’60s and ’70s. These influences have contributed to her unique jazzy-bluesy sound. Jasmine’s original songs have received significant critical and popular attention.

Today, as a vocalist and guitarist, Jasmine draws on this wealth of knowledge in both her song writing and her unique, jazzy-bluesy interpretations of classics.

“Her lyrics are authentic and her storytelling is sincere.” – Markos Papadatos, Indie Music Editor, Suite 101.

“Jasmine’s songs ranged through a string of rhythms and meters that spoke honestly, with a sense of the poetic.” – Eric Pozza, Canberra Jazz

Jasmine Beth’s busy touring schedule takes her to folk clubs, festivals, pubs and cafes all over the world. In 2015, she completed her third annual tour of the UK and Ireland, playing 17 dates, including a support for renowned Scottish singer-songwriter Barbara Dickson at the Stratford-Upon-Avon Arts House. She has previously supported the likes of Mic Conway and Eugene Hideaway Bridges.

Jasmine started playing classical piano at the age of 9, completing Eighth Grade (AMEB) with Honours at 17. At the same time, her parents introduced her to jazz, blues and folk music – from Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan and Cannonball Adderley to Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon.

She was a finalist in the 2014 Australian Songwriting Contest, runner-up in the 2010 Sydney Singer-Songwriter Competition and runner-up in the 2010 Kommotion Singer-Songwriter Contest. In 2009, she won the Bermagui Seaside Music Competition, as a result of which she was invited to record at Pirate Studios. She was also a semi-finalist in the 2009 U.K. Songwriting Competition.

Meanwhile, numerous festivals have invited her to play, including Narooma Oyster Festival, Pfeiffer Food and Wines Festival, Majors Creek Festival, Northern Beaches Music Festival, Illawarra Folk Festival, Bonnie Doon Festival and Wingham Acoustic Festival.

2012 saw the release of Jasmine’s eponymous debut EP, with launch gigs at The Basement, Sydney and The Wesley Anne, Melbourne, and an extensive regional tour.

Jasmine is perfect for to create a bluesy-jazzy vibe at your next event.
