For the past 25 years George Negus has been at the forefront of Australian political journalism earning considerable recognition as an international correspondent and charming audiences with his wit, humour and incisive style.
George currently presents Dateline – the SBS flagship current affairs program. In 2004, George hosted George Negus Tonight on ABC Television.
He has interviewed many of the world’s most famous people, including Boutros Boutros Ghali, Bob Dylan, Robert Redford, John Cleese, Fidel Castro, Steven Spielberg and Gerry Adams. George was a founding member of 60 Minutes, Australian television’s most successful program ever, his eight year stint on the show raising him to a position of extraordinary public prominence. His reputation was further enhanced by his role as presenter of the ABC’s highly regarded international affairs program, Foreign Correspondent.
George is the author of Across the Red Unknown (a journey through the new Russia) and By George, a collection of his print articles over the years encompassing twenty years of Australian political history. He is the author of two best recent best selling books, The World From Italy, about the evolving economic and political “Third Way” and The World From Islam which draws upon his considerable experience working in various Islamic countries.
George is an excellent facilitator and chairperson of debates, particularly in the areas of government, politics, international affairs and areas of special personal concern such as national development, decentralisation, environment, sport and family issues.
