Biography

Dot Dot was born in Melbourne, Australia. At the age of 11 he discovered gymnastics and spent the next 5 years training and competing. At the age of 16 he looked at his competition leotard, realised that purple and gold were not his colours, and quit.

He spent the next 2 years of high school surfing, skating and snowboarding. He continued to nurture these passions through the first 2 years of his degrees in Computer Science and Philosophy, and subsequently failed them both. Reuben then began training in earnest to become the entertainer he is today. On his way he acquired (completely legally) a diploma in small company/community theatre, traditional acrobatic training from the Beijing Acrobatic Troupe, a huge range of circus and performance skills, and a complete loss of vertigo.

Performing professionally around the world at some of the biggest festivals such as Edinburgh Fringe, Christchurch World Buskers’ Festival and Ansan Street Arts Festival, as well as private performances for the likes of BMW and Land Rover, and to top it off, working for circuses as illustrious as Cirque du Soleil – Dot Dot is a true entertainer.

Street
Dot Dot defies gravity and death with acrobatic stunts and balances you need to see to believe. The show that has it all – humour; handstands; and holding on for dear life! With a spinning one-handed balance 17 feet up in the air, concrete never looked so hard…
The show lasts 40 minutes and contains Chinese pole, handbalancing, manipulation and crowd interaction.

On Casual Friday
Drinking scotch, smoking cigarettes (albeit fake ones), playing with hats, and doing all this while upside down, what else would he do on a day off? A silent show set to smooth sounds that can be a single 5-minute act, 2 five-minute sets, or a full-length street-style show.

Metamorphosis
‘Metamorphosis’ is a 6 minute hand balance act, set to a piano piece by Phillip Glass, with the same name. Loosely based on Kafka’s piece of the same name, this act is a slow, methodical, strong and stunning exploration of entrapment, by body and environment, through movement and handbalancing, creating beautiful shapes and positions on a set of 4 specially made canes.
