Jason Akermanis was one of the Brisbane Lions’ most experienced players before switching to the Western Bulldogs in 2007. His flamboyant talents and bleach-blond hair make him easy to identify on the field.

Off the field, he is also very outspoken on issues concerning the Australian Football League and other codes, including famously threatening to switch to rugby union if the Lions signed former Kangaroos Football Club star Wayne Carey.

He was a crowd favourite of Lions fans, being famous for his handstands following a winning match although to be fair he has somewhat tempered his flamboyance since becoming a Bulldog.

His brash, over-confident demeanour often makes him a favourite target for abuse by some supporters of other clubs, although some others regard him as a colourful character and an antidote to the range of footballers who only speak in tedious clich.

He co-wrote a book with Gary Smart titled AKA – The Battle Within, which was released worldwide.

He has completed some terrific community work with teammates in the Life’s A Ball and BeyondBlue programs, initiatives aimed at speaking to troubled high school students and trying to help set them on the right track with their lives. Akermanis also has a strong media role, writing for The Courier-Mail, and contributing to Channel 10 and Triple M.

Jason Akermanis is a true AFL champion and entertaining speaker.

Based in Melbourne, travels Australia wide.
