Currently studying a Law/Science degree at Monash University, Hugh Evans has been chosen as The Young Australian of the Year for 2004 and One of Ten Outstanding Young People of the World for 2004.

At just 23 years of age, Hugh Evans is dedicating his life to helping the most underprivileged people in this world.

Hugh’s passion for helping others began when he was 12 and became involved in World Vision’s 40-Hour Famine. He started organising the Famine at his school and personally set himself very high targets. Over the next few years, his school became the highest fundraising school for the 40-Hour Famine in Australia.

Hugh’s involvement with World Vision has taken him to the Philippines after being awarded the opportunity to represent Australia as part of the 1998 Qantas Study Tour. Sleeping in a slum, Hugh witnessed an entire community built around a garbage dump and saw children scavenging and dying around him. The experience impacted Hugh’s life immensely, flagging a turning point in his life.
